Coming soon to a city near you: Us! One year out

Last week, we decided that we are one year out from retirement on December 23rd, 2016 - the last working day of the year!

Last week, my wife mentioned to me that we should come up with the exact dates that we'll truly call it quits from full time work. My answer: When's the last working day before Xmas?
Our dog Patti was super excited about our dates!

Since late summer, my goal has been to retire by the end of 2016, but we never actually had a specific date in mind. Finally, we decided on an exact day.

    December 23rd, 2016

...which happens to be the last working day before the Christmas holiday for most corporations in the U.S. - mine included. By the time that next year's Christmas rolls around, I should be done.

Almost regardless of what the stock market decides to throw at us over the course of the year.

The latter half of 2015 made it nearly impossible to make any significant headway, unfortunately. Our net worth has stayed fairly consistent since late summer.

Doesn't matter. We will make it work, even if that means doing a little more work camping as we start off (we already have a couple ideas for this!), which will reduce our expenses significantly. Or riding our bikes more often than we think, minimizing our gas expenses. Or taking odd jobs here and there for a couple extra bucks (so long as we enjoy the work).

No worries had by us. As flexible people willing to do what it takes to start into a life of full time travel and exploration, we are confident and willing to do whatever it takes to see it through.

    What about my wife?

Don't worry, she's coming with me! Courtney will be retiring February 15th, 2017, about a week before her 31st birthday, in order to qualify for social security later in life.

She's the badass planner, so I need her to keep me sane while on the road. I'm the big vision guy, and she's the how-we-make-it-work girl. It's a perfect combination!

How many out there have come up with their exact anticipated retirement dates?
